Artist Statement

I use photography and digital tools to reach out to the viewer using sound and bold colors in order to make them feel transported to a different world with outrageous characters. I thrive in programs like adobe software and Blender because it allows me to make mistakes and fix those mistakes with ease. I believe that art should be fun. If I am not enjoying myself I’m not creating at the capacity I am capable of. This belief comes through in my use of color. I rarely create images in black and white. I take pictures at sporting events and then convert those pictures into zany creations. I digitally alter body parts, clothing, and environments in order to create the most unique product possible. Rooted in wonder, this primary emotion guides me through my creation process seamlessly.

Blender is such a vast program that I am constantly learning new tricks and techniques during my time creating. Product animation/advertisement has become a big part of my blender journey. Learning how to create unique environments and camera movement to put a product on display has been a key part of my understanding of blender. The music I use in my work also tries to resemble the emotion that I wish the viewer feels. During this process, I think about how I could apply these new techniques to my future work. I brainstorm best while I am working on other projects. I keep a pen and paper next to me to jot down new ideas.

I am drawn to the subject of vintage and nostalgia because I enjoy making the viewer recall different fond emotions or memories. I find inspiration in vintage sports photoshoots. I find the simplicity of them to be fascinating. The quality and focus of the cameras are appealing to me as well. I make connections between sports and movies because I believe the two have much more in common than meets the eye. In the process of creating my work, I find that the details are important and I sometimes obsess over three pixels no viewer would ever notice. Going into this grave detail is a part of my perfectionist nature and allows me to feel in control of my work. I take pride in the skill of knowing when “enough is enough”. Fixing those mistakes gives me a sense of accomplishment and perfection. Emotion is at the center of my art. Depending on what mood or state of mind I am in, my color choice will often reflect that. For example in my “hat” animation I used a calm blue for the background because I was relaxed. I believe that trying is the same thing as forcing. If someone is "trying to have fun" that would imply that they are forcing fun out of a situation. If my work isn't "fun" it's not good enough for me. To me, the most important thing is being alone while I work. I am not much of a talker and I get distracted easily so being able to sit in my room alone and work on a project is helpful for me. I strive to strike awe in the viewer and create something that they will truly never forget.
